Happy Anniversary!!!

This couple is one of my favorites…I can’t believe it’s been a year already!!!  I hope you two have the best years of your life ahead of you.  Thank you again for letting us be a part of it, you guys are precious!

This was a fun sneaky little thing that happened…this couple got engaged earlier this year and all of their friends thought they were coming out on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon to have engagement photos done…well, that isn’t what happened.  They wanted to have these “wedding” pictures done, then get married at a later date and the save the date invites they have sent out are actually to their reception party they will be having next fall, because they already tied the knot!!

Crystal came to the studio that day and Heather did her make up for her, then when she was ready, they had their first look outside.  They chose to do these on Main Street in Mount Airy, because that’s where they had their first date.  There are some nice people in our little town too, during one shot we were out in the middle of the street and a car pulled up sideways and offered to block off traffic for us if we were going to be shooting anymore out there….so sweet!

Crystal made a gorgeous retro looking bride, with her dress from the 50’s, and her and Ryan are so cute together!!  I wish them so much love together for the rest of their lives!!  Thank you for letting us be a part of this cool day for you!!

A day in the life

I wish I had a clone of myself…one that knew how my mind NEVER stops going….never, and could do some of the endless tasks I do.  It is utterly exhausting most of the time.  I envy my husband, who can lay down at night, and be asleep in 5.9 seconds and there I lay, TRYING to shut my mind up to be able to go to sleep.  I have two full time jobs and do a pretty good job of keeping it all going.  My house work, very lacking. My down time, sorely neglected (glad I took my mini vacay in August). I thrive on being busy though, even as tiring as it all is, life is fabulous right now.  My new job, stressful indeed, but I know I am where I belong right now.  But here is just a snippet of a typical day in my life…

5am~ wake up usually before my husbands’ clock goes off and lay there until he gets up at 5:10

5:12~lay in bed and check emails and skim Facebook until my bladder says I must get up (I always have the hope I will be able to go back to sleep after Robert leaves…rarely happens…like three times a year, maybe)

5:30~ get up with the intentions of showering first, but usually drink my coffee while I edit a few pictures

6:30~ rush to take said shower because a few pictures turned into a lot more (or blogging, or updating my website, or replying to an email or message, or etc…you get the point)

7:15~get out the door to take kid to school, sit in the car and wait another ten minutes for the teenager who never gets in a hurry, even though I am losing my mind and honking the horn

8:00~arrive at my full time job that actually pays me lol and set messages to auto reply for my business, then there is so much that goes on in this time frame that there is no way I could put it all in this blog

5:00~ check messages and emails and Facebook and get back to all the stuff that has went on from 8-5; schedule clients, hair stylists, make up artists and myself; grab food as I head to the studio

5:30~reveals…this is one of my most favorite things to do, I love seeing clients see their images…it’s the best!! Or sometimes we have shoots at this time, which is one of my other favorite things to do (then I don’t get home until about 9)

6:30~home to edit a few more pictures for a couple of minutes, or work on album design, or blog, or advertise, and plan on seeing my kid and husband for a bit

10:00~realize that it is my bedtime and I can’t see straight anymore and my family has been without me again, so I go to bed

10:05~realize I am wide awake now, so I pick up a book

11:00~finally have read enough that my brain will be quite and I can go to sleep

Repeat 5-6 days a week haha!!

There you have just an idea of what it’s like to have my crazy busy life, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!!  ( I really do see my family more than I have let on, but still not as much as I’d like to, but one is a teenager and he only needs me for food, and the hubby is just about as busy as I am with all he does…)

Living the dream and loving life!!

My new job is fabulous and I am a part of something that means so much to a lot of people and it is very gratifying for me. Life is great!!!

Here are just a few from a bridal boudoir I did recently….she is so beautiful and rocked her shoot, as well as made such a beautiful bride!!!

Jessica Bridals…

This sweet girl has been a friend of mine for several years now… we worked together at Forsyth and used to carpool…we have had MANY laughs on the ride home.  I was honored when she got engaged and I texted her to ask about the details of her happy day, at the time she said, “all I know is it going to be in October and you’re shooting the wedding.”  We got down to the wire on these, but they turned out fabulous and she is a stunning bride, as I am sure Nick is agreeing just about right now, since today is their wedding.

Thanks again to Kelleigh and Dee at The Farmhouse Siloam for letting us borrow your beautiful venue for some of these photos.  You guys rock!!

Jessica and Nick, I wish you so much love for the rest of your life!!  You deserve such happiness and blessings!!  Love you much!!

Love story…

I shot a wedding on June 10 with one of the coolest couples…they just seem to have a love very unique, so I asked her to give me their story…she did not disappoint.  I loved it and I know you will too…

2014 – I could never get a relationship to last more than 6 months or more since my ex-fiancé left me in 2000. I had been on dating sites off and on for almost a decade. I had given up on the idea of ever having a family in the traditional sense and decided to have many adventures with my friends partying, camping, traveling and living life to the fullest as a self sufficient, independent, professional woman. I still dated men but never really had a commitment or unconditional love, much less a man to even utter the words “I love you”.
Daniel had recently become a widower in January of 2014. His marriage of twenty years ended abruptly when his love, lost her battle to breast cancer. After 6 months of grieving and solitude, Daniel craved the touch of a woman and just began using dating sites to see what was available.
Daniel reached out and we soon exchanged numbers. We had an afternoon date set up to walk the Cape Fear River Trail on a Sunday afternoon. The Friday night prior, my plans changed and I ended up having dinner with my dad at The Doghouse Bar and Grill. After dinner I asked Daniel if he was available to meet that night, he jumped at the chance and came to meet me even though my dad was also there. We had such a great time we continued at another bar. He then met me after work on Saturday night and we still kept our afternoon hiking date.
We became inseparable. He spent almost every night at my house. One night Daniel sat up in bed and he told me he loved me. In my jaded mind, it hadn’t been nearly long enough so I snapped back, “I don’t believe you.” Secretly I loved hearing it, but so many guys had once been into me and easily left that I didn’t think it was possible.
We took a motorcycle riding course together in September of 2014. He began helping me train for my half marathon. Running with me 5 days a week. He even ran up a mountain to the blue-ridge parkway with me as we celebrated my birthday in November. This is when I learned he did not want any more children, Daniel felt that he was too old to raise another child and would not be a positive influence, due to his past. I again gave up on having any children of my own as long as I dated Daniel. None of my relationships lasted long anyways so I was enjoying his company and I decided to stay with him and let this relationship run its course. We took a trip to Disney World where I ran my ½ marathon in February of 2015.
When I found out I was pregnant, I cried all day because I knew this was the end our relationship. Daniel was initially fearful of this new situation and refused to be a part of our son’s life. Even though I could tell Daniel was distant, he was at our sons birth and was the best birthing supporter I could have asked for. He stayed with me and did support me all throughout my maternity leave.
I could feel things slipping away as the Holidays neared. His mother’s health was declining and he rushed home to Illinois to be by her side. I feared I’d never see him again. He never introduced me to his family yet so I felt he never intended for me to be a part of his.
On Christmas Eve in 2015 Daniel and I had the longest heart to heart into the wee hours of the morning. We learned quite a bit about the other in such a short amount of time. My head was swimming with disbelief yet joy at the same time. By noon the next day, Finn and I had One Way tickets to Illinois to meet Daniel’s family! I was thrilled to no end. I don’t think I slept until I was in his arms.
After meeting his family we attended a new years party at his brother’s home to bring in 2016. As I leaned down to take a sip of my beer, Daniel whispered in my ear “Happy New Years, would you please be a part of every one of my New Years for the rest of my life?”
Daniel and I drive back to North Carolina and settled in together. We finally decided to tie the knot on the 2 year anniversary of our first date, which also happened to be the summer solstice! We are both ecstatic and couldn’t be happier to be a permanent fixture for each other. So many plans and adventures yet to explore!
Thanks so much for sharing this LaNae and Daniel, I wish you many many more wonderful adventures together as well!! I also want to thank you for allowing us to be a part of that gorgeous day…I’ll never hear “At Last” ever again without thinking of you 🙂
The wedding took place at The Farmhouse Siloam, a big shout out to Kelleigh and Dee for being amazing that day as well!

Wedding (throw back) Wednesday

Photography is cool, I really love meeting new people and getting to peek into their lives for a bit.  This young lady reached out to me at the beginning of the year and chose me to do their wedding, as well as her bridals.  It’s funny how close you can get to someone in just a short amount of time, we shared stories and a lot of laughs in the journey we had together.

I am so glad this sweet couple found me to do photography for them, and in honor of their one year “engagement anniversary” here are some of my favorites from their wedding back on May 7th.  Looking back on them is bittersweet for me, we don’t get to talk as much now that it’s done, but through social media, I still get to keep up with them (and their animals 😀 ).  Thanks so much Alisonne and Austin, you guys are precious and your love for each other is something for others to reach for!!

Why every bride needs to do boudoir…

So you have gotten engaged…maybe he got down on one knee, at a crowded place and an unsuspecting time, and popped the question- or maybe he wasn’t brave enough to do that and did it in a quite conversation with just the two of you…however he did it, it took a lot for him to do it, and it was a very big deal for him!!

Now, the wedding planning begins!! Fun, right?  Haha, maybe some of it, but it is stressful.  Most men will bow out during this process and let the brides (and their friends and family) take over the details. Sure, most of them will give input when asked, but generally the women folks handle everything from the flowers, attire, venue, down to the decorations.

Then, the day of the wedding comes, he is about to stand up in front of everyone he knows (and maybe some he doesn’t know) and profess his undying devotion to you.  You have been busy planning and distracted by details getting ready for this day…it would be such a nice gesture to give him a token of how much he means to you, and that you didn’t forget he is the reason this day is happening for you.

A boudoir album gifted to the groom on the day of the wedding is such a special keepsake…as a photographer, I have had the honor of doing the boudoir shoot and designing the album, then to be the one to pull the groom aside to capture the moment of him seeing this unique gift.  It was emotional and touching, to say the least!!  I feel it meant a lot that his bride had taken the time out of the business of wedding planning, to do something like that for him.  He will have that album now to look back on at their 50th anniversary and still feel that emotion of his bride that day, that had chosen to focus on her groom.

Give us a call and let us help you gift your groom with this timeless keepsake!!
